angkor wat

Rose at 4.30am to go with thousands of others to watch the sun rise over Angkor Wat. For the rest of our time in Siem Reap we had strategically avoided the tour buses and crowds in an attempt to get some solitude at the temples. But watching sun rise is ‘the thing to do’ so we did it. Unfortunately – no sunrise. Heavy cloud cover meant the sky turned from a gloomy dark grey to an insipid lighter grey over the course of two hours. (boring!) Never to mind. Its another ‘tick’ on the list of things one should do on planet Earth.

angkor thom

Exploring the largest of the temple complexes, Angkor Thom. Bayon temple, famous as the temple of faces was more marvelous, labyrinthine, and awe inspiring than I had anticipated. Last photo is of Kerrie waiting for sunset at Angkor Wat.

siem reap

Siem Reap is a beautiful and vibrant town - but I am so confused about where I am. It's like Melbourne Yarra, Las Vegas strip, Koh San Road Bangkok, Hanoi, Paris, Singapore, Kerala, Saigon all rolled into one. It's wonderful and I'm sad tonight is my last night here.

just keeping ourselves relax

Life is pretty hard on a holiday in Cambodia - as you can see. Sihanoukville and Koh Rong Saloem - the beach leg of our journey. Simply beautiful. (photo of ikb courtesy of Kerrie McSnap)
