another day - another emergency room

A high five almost became a high four when I missed Sunny Drake's hand and instead hit the jagged edge of a mirror. Luckily, despite a gruesome wound, I did not damage and nerves or tendons. Though I did require plastic surgery and hence had my first operation of my whole life, which was rather exciting. For those who are not the faint of heart there are photos of the injury here: sunny and ingrid's infamous high five. If you are squeamish about these things I would highly recommend not looking.

ingrid's insides

It has been a dramatic start to 2010. Having never been to hospital before in my life I have now done three trips in as many weeks. Two trips were for a bizarre and sudden rising paralysis which after many many tests was diagnosed as transverse myelitis (and not multiple sclerosis thank goodness!). The lower picture shows the needle from my lumbar puncture which certainly lived up to its reputation of being painful and uncomfortable. Over the last few days there have been huge improvements with my symptoms and I am confident of making a full recovery. Big thanks to all my friends and family who supported me during this time. Its greatly appreciated.

Of course 2010 has not been all doom and gloom and emergency rooms. I've also turned some sort of corner in life and have become interested in things like gardening. Here is the fish pond I have set up and it's new inhabitants. The fish are very happy and the water lilies are about to bloom.

greetings from epworth

At Epworth I Had a course of steroids which made me feel quite manic and wired and unable to sleep. I made this postcard at 3.30 one morning to send to my friends. I tried to make it look as terrible as possible. Gotta love the drop-shadow effect.
